Obituary for Sharon Lee Kiefer

Sharon Lee Kiefer
April 19, 1940 - August 27, 2019

Sharon Lee Kiefer passed away peacefully at home on August 27, 2019 in Arvada, Colorado at the age of 79. She was the only child of Leo and Olive Harmsen, and grew up in the smallest of small towns, Teeds Grove, Iowa. She attended Grinnell College and Iowa State University, then moved to Colorado to get her Master’s degree at the University of Colorado in Boulder. For more than 30 years, she was a dedicated school teacher for the Denver Public Schools (DPS). Following her retirement from DPS in 1996, she became a certified guide with the Rocky Mountain Guides Association and the Colorado Destination Management Company, and volunteered as a tourism ambassador for the State of Colorado, Denver International Airport and Colorado Historical Society, to name a few.

During her retirement years, you would have found her hiking the high country of Colorado in the summer and, as recently as the 2017-2018 season, using her season pass to cruise the slopes of Winter Park or Copper Mountain in the winter. When she wasn’t hiking and skiing, she was meticulously planning her next exciting trip to somewhere in Europe or Asia.

Sharon was a loving wife, mom, grandma and dear friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Richard Kiefer, two daughters, a son, two son-in-laws, one daughter-in-law, and three beautiful grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 11:00am at Faith Lutheran Church in Golden, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Faith Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.

I’m so sorry to hear of Sharon’s passing. I’ve done her hair for the last 9 or 10 years. I loved her dearly. I’ll miss hearing about her family and seeing pictures of her grandchildren. I’ve been on maternity leave all summer. I’m so sad I won’t be able to share my little one with her! Sending my love to the whole family!! -Nicole Johnson
